'Eye Level' is the hugely popular theme from British television series 'Van der Valk', starring Barry Foster in the title role as Dutch detective Commissaris "Piet" (real name Simon) van der Valk. Based on the characters and atmosphere (but not the plots) of the novels of Nicolas Freeling, the first series was shown in 1972.
Composed by Jack Trombey, the track was released as a single in 1973 by The Simon Park Orchestra, when it reached number one and sold well over a million copies.
The trainspotters out there may also know this track was released by Matt Monroe for a vocal version called "And You Smiled".
